For nearly 30 years, John M. Corcoran & Corcoran Management Company have been a driving force in working to end homelessness and to provide stable and affordable housing for those who are less fortunate. CMC is proud to be a leading partner and sponsor of Caritas Communities , a non-profit organization that owns and manages 29 residential properties and homes throughout the Greater Boston area that offer a place for those struggling with homelessness to be able to call home. On Thursday November 13 th , Caritas held its annual end of the year fundraiser dinner and gala at the Sheraton Boston. As is the case with many non-profits today, Caritas faces challenges when it comes to fundraising and meeting the growing demand of those in need of emergency assistance. Last Wednesday, the team at Lynnfield Commons in Lynnfield, MA was recognized by the Greater Boston Real Estate Board and Rental Housing Association as the 2014 Community of Excellence Award among communities 5-20 years old. We here at Corcoran are proud to announce that one of our own fabulous property managers was recently acknowledged as the 2013 New England Affordable Housing Management Association's National Affordable Housing Professional of the Year!  Paula Malcolm, property manager at Stratton Hill Park, an affordable community consisting of 156 apartments in Worcester, was honored as this years recipient. The award goes to a professional in the multi-family affordable housing industry who has demonstrated comprehensive property or asset management skills along with a detailed knowledge of government programs, regulations and procedures applying to affordable housing. Amy Misenti (L) and Vivian Simone Last week, staff members and residents of Andover Commons in Andover, MA celebrated two very special birthdays. Amy Misenti (Left) recently turned 103 years young in June and Vivian Simone (Right) celebrated her 101st birthday back in February.  Last week Amy and Vivian celebrated with their fellow residents and staff members at a dual-birthday party at the resident lounge room at Andover Commons. Property Manager Bethany Hollingworth and Resident Services Coordinator Eleanor Cox even reached out and invited immediate family members to attend the celebration. Each year thousands of managerial, marketing, leasing, and maintenance professionals from the multifamily apartment industry descend upon one chosen city to enhance and celebrate their knowledge at the National Apartment Association’s (NAA) Education Conference and Expo. Six employees travelled to majestic Denver, Colorado to represent Corcoran Management a the 2014 Conference.   NAA provides conference attendees the best education on multifamily practices as well as inspirational guest speakers and a  entertaining atmosphere. The NAA committee hit a grand-slam this year with its selections for the general session speakers. Two Corcoran Property Managers Earn Their CPM Two of Corcoran’s Property Managers have just completed a major step in their Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) education. Ed Sullivan, manager at Shrewsbury Commons, and Erin O’Connor of Weymouth Commons were each honored with their Certified Property Manager (CPM) designations. Earning a CPM designation requires managers to devote many additional hours to various courses on real estate ethics, resident relations, financial reporting and management planning. Today is a day to pay our respects and show appreciation for the military servicemen and women who have proudly served this country and sacrificed to help preserve our freedoms. Roughly 1.1 million American citizens are enlisted in the US Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard. Of those 1.1 million, many have fought overseas in battle. The brave souls who are willing to leave behind their friends, family and home lives and head overseas with their military brothers and sisters make the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Veteran’s Day is a special day in which we honor our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters who have fought for our country. If you know someone who served in battle, give them thanks and let them know that they are true definition of “heroes”. We send our thanks to all veterans and active duty military personal. Thank you for your commitment and sacrifice for this country!
