Union 346 Awarded LEED Gold Certification
Union 346 LEED Gold Certified
Union 346 was recently certified for the LEED Gold rating for Phase I. The mission of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification program is to create a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment that improves the quality of life for all. This community was built with the intention of a greener future for our Somerville residents.
According to the USGBC website, "To achieve LEED certification, a project earns points by adhering to prerequisites and credits that address carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality" and properties are awarded points that correspond to a certain level of certification. LEED Gold certification is awarded to projects with 60-79 points earned and is the second highest certification.
The sustainable design of Union 346 not only benefits the environment, but also the residents living in the community. LEED buildings use less energy and water which saves on heating and water costs while promoting overall greater quality of life for residents.
