DUO Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

DUO held a ribbon cutting ceremony last week to officially open the doors of the brand-new six-story building. The event was largely attended, and several city officials spoke in addition to JJC's CEO Joseph Corcoran, and Peter Mahoney, JMC's Executive Vice President of Development.

Crowd gathered in lobby of DUO for ribbon cutting ceremony

This was a notable event as DUO is the first completed project in the Commonwealth's Public Housing Innovations Demonstration Program, and has been a pioneering redevelopment into a mixed-income community in Chelsea.

Above is a resident who lived in the public housing development, Innes Apartments, that existed prior to the redevelopment of the property. AS the head of the Innes Residents' Association, she has been involved in the redevelopment of DUO to ensure that all voices of previous residents were heard as DUO would become their new home.

Andrew Brinker of the Boston Globe wrote that Duo, "... is the latest example in a promising new trend for public housing in Massachusetts: replacing the state's aging public housing projects with larger developments that mix public and market-rate units." The project will include 96 apartments for very low-income residents, 40 workforce apartments, and 196 market-rate apartments.
